To: Friends of Julien Lambert and the Fourteen Angels Foundation "Canines 4 K-9s" Program
From:Eileen Burke-Trent, Exec. Director
Date: February 13, 2009
On February 12th we were contacted by a dear friend of the family of 10-year-old Julien Lambert of France, who passed away on Tuesday, February 10th. We were asked to help suggest a way to create a lasting memorial to his brief but full young life, that could be presented to his loved ones during his memorial service February 14th. We worked round-the-clock with our organization, and with Julien's American friends, to complete the task in time.
Julien was an avid sports participant, good friend to many, and beloved by all who knew him. He took his first sled dog ride a year ago in January 2008 and fell in love with the dogs and the sport...so it seemed fitting that his memorial include his love. The Fourteen Angels Foundation, and our "Canines4K-9s" program, in partnership with the friends and family who loved and admired Julien, will begin an ongoing effort with the establishment of the Julien Lambert International Memorial Youth Sportsmanship & Humanitarian Fund for Junior Mushers under 16 years-of-age. The very first Julien Lambert Youth Sportsmanship Award will be given at the California Gold Mush Sled Dog & Snowshoe Races being held the weekend of Feb 26-Feb28, 2010 in Lake Davis/Graeagle, California, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Foundation will also be contacting the International Sled Dog Racing Association and Greg Sellitin at Mushing Magazine, in an effort to make this a recognized, world-wide effort on behalf of youth mushers everywhere--to especially encourage sportsmanlike conduct and care of their teams. As Julien's fund grows, we will be working to further encourage greater youth participation and advanced training in Julien's name for youth mushers worldwide, focusing on canine care and the 3 R's to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Retrain abused and abandoned dogs, promote advanced sports training for dogs and youth alike, and promote sportsmanship and international humanitarian ideals.
We at Fourteen Angels are profoundly touched and very honored to be asked to work on this worldwide effort, and send our heartfelt condolances to Julien's friends, family, and to those whose lives he touched in the United States, in France, and now...around the world.
We light a candle to his loving memory.
If you wish to honor Julien and encourage continuing training for mushers and dogs alike, humanitarian efforts, sportsmanship for young mushers, and support the work of the Foundation, your tax-deductible donations, large or small, may be sent for the Julien Lambert's Memorial Fund, in your own name, or on behalf of a child or granchild. Should they desire, your children's pennies, nickels and dimes for contributions to the fund, are also welcome. No donation is too small and each nickle received is important.
Checks, money orders or postal orders in dollars only please can be made out and posted to the Fourteen Angels Foundation, in Julien's memory. Please notate "Julien Lambert Memorial Fund" on your check and mail to:
